Zoltan Gal, aka ICR, is known as one of the most prolific drum & bass producers around. He might not have been as active recently, but ICR still has a wide range of productions from which he's fuelling his new projects. 

His Restored album is the latest instalment in the free-releases he pleases his fans with from time to time; giving away tracks from the past, signed but unreleased tunes and special remixes as a prelude for future releases.

Also look out for other forthcoming albums from ICR and his this year, he has a compilation coming on his Misspent Music label calledMissing Pieces and there are two artist albums due: Between Nowhere & Goodbye (Misspent Music 016) and Such Unimportant Things Like Us (Counter Intelligence).

After ICR’s two Mp3 only releases on Nerve, we decided it was time to get him on some vinyl for us!
The first track on the release – “Fill The Sky” is an epic chunk of dark dnb. It grows and grows and grows until it peaks at the end with some crashing apocalyptic breaks and grungy stabs. “Skanner” on the flip is on a whole different tip – its kinda dubby dnb meets techstep – strange I hear you say, well yes, but tis absolutely wicked so download it and fire it up!

Both tracks showcase ICRs amazing production talent once again and I can’t recommend his music highly enough so have a wander over to his site at http://www.icrmusic.blogspot.com/ and have a listen at more of his stuff

The original of Words was released on NERVEBP002 and we decided to go back in on it for the next MP3 only release.

ICR turned in his own remix which toughened up the track a tad – harder beats and bass but with the same eerie atmosphere of the original. For the flip we drafted in Scottish producer Lowbrow and his remix is a lovely slice of minimal, techy dnb. With the minimal thing being so popular in dnb at the mo, I’ve dropped this into the odd set this year and it’s went down a treat.

For the second of our Mp3 only releases we were very pleased to welcome onboard another amazing drum n bass producer from Hungary – ICR.

This man is one of the the most prolific drum n bass producers ever to fire up a sequencer. I’d started chatting to him online and he sent me amazing tune after amazing tune and I thought “Words” just had to come out on Nerve. It was perfect for us – tough beats and bass with an epic spooky breakdown and an eerie almost unsettling atmosphere. Amazing stuff.

For the flip we went for the more spacey beats of “Arcadia” – a bit on the lighter side but by no means a weaker track.

We released a few more ICR outings and more on those later. For now I recommend you check outICR’s site and his new label Misspent Music.

Never one to threaten his creative muse, ICR holds certification of his merits across a broad range of Drum&Bass labels. In course though, some material has inevitably had to stay in the "Unreleased" dungeon, and Illkid, his alter ego, is a cellar dweller of sorts. Resurrecting the artist project this year technically enhanced from 2001, the Hungarian jiggles all of those serene atmospherics sonorous on his Covert Operations releases into Illkid’s jangly jacket of IDM expulsions as an alternate, and constantly differential characteristic. Think ASC to Intex Systems, and the margins for output are defined in an instant. If you ever wondered what this guy could pull out of the bag for Hip-Hop and Downtempo realms as a focus, "Hungry Man", "Rich Art Gear", and the not-so reserved "Antidiotics" (from his 2001 tracker days) will put it to you straight. XGN022 comes from a man who's well known for his solid production and atmospheric creations on labels such as Covert Operations, Nerve, Offshore, Breakbeat Science and Orgone. ICR delivers two drum soaked tracks, both with the crisp breaks, deep pads and subtle melodies which are often found in his sound.

Shinumade Tatakau, the A side to this release features a well executed Japanese/Samurai vibe with the subtle percussion flowing amongst the sharp, intense drumwork. Diligent pads and hard edged string phrases drift in and out , polishing off a flowing assailment of Shaolin beats.

The flipside Even When Your Shadow Leaves You has a more solemn touch to it. Soft, floaty pads are accompanied by a melange of blips and bells. Some clean, flowing breaks join in with the warm bass finishing off this smooth abstracted track.

ICR & Matt-U - Soulshine (tracks from the trash)

Both hungarian ICR and Matt-U started producing in Reason around 2002 after a few years of tracking. They co-operated on several tunes developing their skills and collecting experiences of producing. This album of unreleased material shows how their style changed over these years from trance influenced atmospheric dnb to soulful liquid.

Words from Zoltan to the sounds of ICR. Does it make any sense?

Once I had a tune named ASPD which stads for anti-social personality disorder. It was four years ago so it's not a new thing.

What are diaries and sounds for?
Its pretty the same. To express your thoughts and feelings, to create something out of nothing. A little bit of a verification that you are exist, you are alive and there's something in you that you can share.

Why now? What is the concept?
On the one hand I felt I have so many tunes - about 70 in the last two years - that I could not release in any form but wanted to make them public. What's the point of making songs only for yourself? On the other hand I felt strongly about letting this all out in the hope of leaving things behind can help starting new things. The only concept is to be sincere, to make a personal collection of sounds whether there is anyone who likes it or not.
All the original tunes are specially edited and/or remixed for this particular project (except Untrue remix, Keynote and Roundabout) as it is reflected in the titles. It's not only diverse drum & bass, but there's a little breakbeat (Break The Sky), downtempo (Hopelyhen, Words v050123), a bit of electronica (Useless) and leftfield too (Switchboard To Your Soul, Mindframe).
