Terra Mission

artist: VA
title: Terra Mission
label: Camino Blue
catalogue: CAMINOCD003
format: 2CD
date: 05/2010
country: Germany

info:
Drum & bass and science have always been natural partners. From the halcyon days of jungle producers have pushed the technical boundaries of their equipment, slicing up samples and squeezing every last piece of processing power from their studios. Meanwhile producers looked to the world of academia to find names for their tracks, their albums and even their own production monikers.

In the heady days of rave 2010 seemed like the future and the mid90s D&B era was the soundtrack to that future. Now it almost feels that partnering the words futuristic and drum & bass is a cliché of epic proportions.

However, Camino Blues latest compilation album Terra Mission combines the kind of scientific influence of old, with a slice of modern D&B that satisfies the natural partnership and doesnt feel forced or impossibly self important.

Taking inspiration from the Terra Mission an observatory that collects comprehensive global measurements of earth's atmosphere, cryosphere, lands, and oceans Camino Blue offers an insight into global musical freedom with a slick technical edge.

Featuring a host of names, some of which you will recognise and some which will be fresh to your ears, Terra Mission encompasses everything thats exciting about cool and clear drum & bass. Fans of Good Looking, Creative Source and Critical Music should lap this up.

CD1 brings you 11 unmixed tracks from the likes of Electrosoul System, MAV, Physics or ICR, while CD2 delves deep into the Camino Blue crates with a continuous DJ mix of all things past and present from P.B.K. featuring vocals from Wiosna.

"For everything you have missed, you have gained something else, and for everything you gain, you lose something else." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
press release:
Each of us has our own personalised firewall, blocking threats, disturbances and undesirable offal. "Missing Pieces" is a compilation deserving to permeate one's guard. ICR chooses newcomers and established Misspent protagonists with equality, and whether it's Faalb's metre-switching "Well Wet", Mendelayev's nuanced and considered "Reflections", Fushara's tales from his concrete city, bustling kaleidoscopes of delight abound, quenching like a semi-skimmed cup over whole fat from the netlabel fraternity. Siphoned to perfection, it's a small display of Misspent's moreish qualities, which should be ranked high on your potentiometer upon consumption. ~ words by Muttley Subversion) (http://subvertcentral.blogspot.com/)

Misspent Music Plans Label Send-Off

Hungarian label Misspent Music recently announced plans to launch two new drum & bass albums on the same day, in what could well be the label's last album releases.

Hungarian label Misspent Music recently announced plans to launch two new drum & bass albums on the same day, in what could well be the label's last album releases.

Whilst waiting for the new compilation Missing Pieces to be mastered, label boss / producer Zoltan Gal, aka ICR,  has been passing the time by perfecting his own album, Between Nowhere and Goodbye.

"The label was started as a platform for me to release the music I believe in," Zoltan told us, "but I feel like the bird on the cover art of my album, turning away, not sure where he's heading, so this could well be the last Misspent release.

"I'm proud of what we've achieved with this small label, and these two albums are being released to celebrate exactly that," he enthused.

Between Nowhere and Goodbye seems a suitable title for an album, which may see Misspent Music call time on a successful six year stint in the industry.

Zoltan runs the label with business partner Gerald Belanger, and is satisfied both albums will give their label a fitting send-off, in typically emotional Misspent fashion.

"The label's sound has been shaped by artists such as Aperture, Bop and Dephecta," he said, "it's musical, deep and almost cinematic.

"We hope that when someone checks out our music they will think there's something in it, an idea, a picture, a sound, a message or perhaps just something they can relate to.

"The best example of that is my favourite tune on my album, Two Steps Backwards, no doubt it's the most emotional track on there.

"My album's been planned for ages," he added, "I chose the name years ago, but it seems to fit perfectly now, it's kind of a swan-song."

Featuring artists like Anorganik, Fushara and Mendaleyev, Missing Pieces is an emotionally driven, twisted collection of European drum & bass, encompassing everything the label stands for.

After closing the doors of Misspent Music, Zoltan hopes to release the Such Unimportant Things Like Us LP on Counter Intelligence to complete the trilogy he started with Something About Nothing.

"It means the closure of a creative period of my life," he concluded.

Expect both albums around the end of March.
